Lander, on the Popo Agie (pronounced po-po-zshah) River, serves as a jumping off place for a variety of outdoor adventures.  Its museum has a wonderful collection of Indian artifacts, plus the gruesome skull of farmer Harvey Morgan, complete with the wagon bolt driven through it when he and a companion died in an 1870 Indian attack.

Just south of Lander the Popo Agie runs into Sinks Canyon where it drops through a hole in the ground, emerging as a giant spring a half mile away.  This is a beautiful and interesting area, with waterfalls and bighorn sheep.
