Fort
Bridger was built by Jim Bridger and Louis Vasquez as a trading post and
supply point for passing emigrants. The fort was captured/purchased
(depending on whom you believe) by the Mormons in 1853 and burned by them in
1857 during the “Mormon War.” The Army rebuilt the fort in 1858 and it
continued to serve as an important supply and staging point for the next
thirty years. This major historic site and museum is located in the
town of Fort Bridger.
