Fort Caspar
1858 - 1867

Platte Bridge Station began as a stage stop at Guinard’s bridge.  The military took over the abandoned stage station in 1862 to ensure the safety of the recently completed transcontinental telegraph line.  It was renamed Fort Caspar in 1865 in honor of Lieutenant Caspar Collins, killed protecting an army wagon train.
