Built in
1886 when the Army administration of Yellowstone Park began, the temporary
structures were called Camp Sheridan in honor of General Phil Sheridan.
In 1891, the temporary structures were replaced by permanent buildings and
the camp was renamed Fort Yellowstone. Military oversight of
Yellowstone ended in 1916 when the National Park Service took over.
