upper Green River Valley near Green River Lake

Bottled at one end by the rugged Gros Ventre and Wind River Mountains, the Green River Valley was heaven for beavers until the trappers found it and its flat tailed inhabitants.  This was rendezvous country, where the trappers who ranged throughout the entire Rocky Mountain region met each summer for what was partially a business function, but more importantly, the major social event of the year.  The Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale, and numerous mountain man rendezvous held throughout the region each summer, celebrate and preserve this era of Wyoming's past.

Star Valley Adventures

Upper Snake River Valley

Sandwiched between the Salt Water Range and Wyoming's western border lies a small, beautiful valley, a green and intimate place quite unlike the majority of Wyoming's landscapes.  Star Valley is closely tied geographically and in almost every other way with Utah and Idaho to the west, but Wyoming is glad to be able to claim its beauty.  Mormon settlers came here from Idaho in the 1880's fleeing enforcement of anti-polygamy laws.  Wyoming, at the time, had more critical problems than policing the number of wives a man might have.
